Chamalang Balochistan Education Programme (CBEP)

Assuming that you had already gone through Pakistan Army’s contributions in Balochistan, particularly to its Chamalang Coal Mines Project, i shall now explain Chamalang Balochistan Education Programme (CBEP) - an initiative directly linked to the coal project.

So here’s how CBEP works:

According to the agreement, the Army diverts some amount from the Coal income (approximately Rs 475 per metric tonne) for carrying out various development works and social sector initiatives such as free education, technical education and health dispensaries.

This arrangement was agreed to in the Agreement itself and is scrutinized by the Director Mines and Minerals Department Balochistan (the cheque is signed by him) and the Tribal Elders of both the Marri and Luni Tribes (both have a representative inside the Chamalang Action and Implementation Committee –CA&IC).

The Army approximately spends Rs 74 million annually on approximately 5000 students studying under the CBEP.

These 5000 students have been distributed as under:
  • Approximately 3000 students in 18 x schools at Kohlu (FC and Private Schools)
  • Approximately 350 students in 10 x schools at Loralai (Army, FC, FG and Private Schools)
